Dallas Police Department Deploys Wireless Video Surveillance Network with OnSSI and other Vendors

Technology Leaders Partner to Promote a Safer Downtown Business District

Suffern, N.Y. - APRIL 25, 2007 - On-Net Surveillance Systems Inc. (OnSSI), the market leader in non-proprietary, open architecture intelligent IP-based video surveillance software solutions, announced today that the Dallas Police Department has deployed a wireless video surveillance network that is managed by the OnSSI software suite. The wireless surveillance system was implemented to help the City of Dallas reduce crime in its central business district.

The Dallas Police Department implemented the system in an effort to reduce crime in an area framed by the downtown freeway loop, a center for many businesses, tourist, residential and entertainment venues. BearCom, a nationwide integrator of wireless equipment and solutions, helped the Dallas police evaluate and implement best-of-class wireless systems for delivering the highest quality IP video images over a high-performance scalable network that operates on the secure 4.9GHz frequency reserved for public safety use.

OnSSI software was implemented along with a host of other companies as strategic partners, including BearCom, project integrator; Sony Electronics, a provider of wireless IP video surveillance cameras; Firetide, a developer of wireless, multi-service mesh networking technologies; and BridgeWave Communications, a supplier of gigabit wireless solutions that facilitate the high-speed, point-to-point transfer of wireless data.

OnSSI and the other vendors were chosen after a competitive bidding process. The initial installation was completed in January, and consisted of 40 Sony cameras, 32 Firetide mesh nodes, and seven BridgeWave transfer units, all controlled via OnSSI's Intelligent IP Video Surveillance solutions.

OnSSI provides the intelligent platform which processes input from Sony cameras over a Firetide wireless mesh network.  The mesh network eliminates the need to install video cabling to each camera location. Video traffic is aggregated and backhauled to the monitoring stations at City Hall and Jack Evans Police Headquarters using BridgeWave's high-speed, secure wireless links.

First responders are able to monitor locations through remote control. They can move camera lenses in any direction and zoom in for a closer look via a control network supplied by OnSSI.

The surveillance system will cover approximately 30 percent of the downtown area and will be used as a crime deterrent with live, 24-hour monitoring in City Hall and at police headquarters. The video streams will also be recorded using OnSSI's compression software onto net digital video recorders. Doing so will create more data to assist with criminal investigations. The overt system is designed with strict adherence to applicable laws and will be used only in public areas with visible camera placement and street-level signage.

"Our goal is to reduce crime in the area and to increase the overall satisfaction with public safety for our citizens," said Dallas Deputy Police Chief Tom Lawrence. "The wireless camera system from BearCom will dramatically improve our ability to monitor this area of the city, and we can now provide our officers with critical, real-time information they can use to protect the public and themselves whenever an incident is detected."

"The Dallas Police Officers will be able to monitor and control wireless, live PTZ cameras throughout the city, utilizing OnSSI's virtual matrix switch," said Mulli Diamant, OnSSI's Vice President of Sales. "This flexibility will greatly enhance the ability of the police to quickly respond to crimes, and to hold criminals accountable for their actions."

The Dallas Police Department plans to expand the wireless surveillance project to other areas of Dallas as additional funding becomes available.
